AP Exams

Each AP course concludes with an AP Exam. These assessments are designed by the same expert committee that developed the course.

AP Exams are scored on a scale of 1 to 5 by college and university professors and experienced AP teachers. Many universities and colleges offer credit for AP Exam scores of 3 or higher.

The exams are administered at authorized schools and test centers. Most high schools that offer AP courses choose to administer AP Exams to their own students as well as external AP students. Schools that opt not to administer AP Exams can refer students to another AP testing location.

AGSC review and recommendations from 2020-21

In October of 2020, the AGSC sub-committee presented it's final report and recommendations to the AGSC. A letter was drafted by the Chair of the AGSC and sent to the Council of Chief Academic Officers. Links to both documents are below:

CLEP Exams

More than 2,900 U.S. colleges and universities grant credit for CLEP. A college’s CLEP credit policy explains:

which CLEP exams are accepted by the institution
what CLEP score you need to receive credit
how many credits are awarded for a particular CLEP exam

The policy may also include other guidelines, such as the maximum number of credits a student can earn through CLEP. Before signing up for a CLEP exam, talk with your academic adviser to figure out how an exam fits in with your education plan.

Receiving AP & CLEP Credit at community colleges across Alabama varies greatly depending on the community college you select and their proximity to their feeder universities and the AP/CLEP exam scores those four-year institutions accept. Check with your advisor or counselor at your institution if you have questions about AP & CLEP Credit and how it transfers.

The Alabama Community College System (ACCS) Policy 706.01 provides information on AP & CLEP Credit as well as other credits earned through non-traditional means.
