Dual Enrollment

Are you interested in taking Dual Enrollment courses in Alabama?

Dual Enrollment courses are taught by college faculty — either at the college campus, at your high school, or online. When you complete these courses, the credits will apply for high school now and college later.

Will these dual enrollment courses transfer later to another institution in the state?

If you plan to take dual enrollment courses in Alabama, you should review the list of AGSC-approved courses for our public universities and our community colleges. These courses are guaranteed to transfer to all Alabama public community colleges and universities when they are 1) required in your chosen major and 2) appear on the student’s official transfer guide for that major.

IMPORTANT: To ensure that dual enrollment courses transfer properly to a public four-year institution in Alabama, high school students must obtain an official transfer guide for their intended major while enrolled in dual enrollment coursework. The transfer guide outlines the courses required for a specific degree program and helps prevent the loss of credit upon transfer.

How do obtain more guidance and direction regarding dual enrollment?

To get started, students should contact their high school counseling office to learn about dual enrollment eligibility requirements and associated costs. We have also provided links below to dual enrollment information pages for Alabama’s public four-year universities and community colleges. Guidance counselors are encouraged to help students obtain an official transfer guide while they are enrolled in dual enrollment courses to help ensure courses transfer appropriately toward their intended major.
