Discussion Questions for Public Four-Year Institutions: 90-Hour Degree Programs

The Alabama Transfers Office has received several inquiries over the past few months regarding the Alabama Articulation and General Studies Committee's (AGSC) position on proposed 90-hour bachelor's degree programs. As these programs continue to gain national attention, it may be appropriate for the AGSC to begin discussing the potential impact on statewide transfer and articulation.

To help inform those discussions, we would appreciate feedback from Alabama's public four-year institutions on the following questions:

    1. What are your institution's perspectives on implementing 90-hour bachelor's degree programs?
    2. Is your institution currently considering offering any 90-hour bachelor's degree programs? If so, are there specific disciplines or program areas under consideration?
    3. If 90-hour degree programs are implemented, do you believe the AGSC would need to develop 45-hour transfer guides (or other revised transfer pathways) to support students transferring into these programs?

Discussion Item: Given the growing interest in these programs, should the AGSC consider establishing a sub-committee to research 90-hour degree models, evaluate their potential impact on Alabama's transfer system, and develop recommendations for future consideration?
