Facilitated by Karen Anderson and Ann Dominick (ALSDE)
Numeracy Act
What is the Numeracy Act?
Impact of the Numeracy Act on Alabama Transfers
2024 Numeracy Act Report (ACHE)QUESTIONS FOR THE EXPERTS:
- Which course will be the Area III math requirement?
- Will this be MTH110 for AA/BA and MTH112 for AS/BS degree plans? If so, if a student earns MTH112 at a community college and decides to attend a four-year institution whose education degree is a BA, will the four-year institution substitute MTH112 for MTH110?
- From the ACCS Course Directory, which course will be the designated equivalent to the first interactive mathematics course? --- Note that ACCS instructional officers just received information about a workshop planned June 9-13 in Birmingham that will address interactive math courses. This workshop is hosted by ALSDE and may address this question through the continuance of MTH231 and MTH232.
- Is there a plan for four-year institutions to standardize the first interactive math course?
- Some four-year institutions may plan to re-configure their degree plans to make room for additional mathematics courses at the junior and senior level. As a result, as many as 15-18 credit hours could be unattainable at the community college level. Is there a plan to standardize the curriculum to aid in the ease of transfer for students statewide?
